
Gearing UpGearing Up Expo was held for the first time in Southern Tasmania this year and the Expo attracted more than 1100 people who enjoyed learning about the education, training, employment, life skills, support and recreational options available for people with disability or ongoing health condition from 60 different exhibitors. Oak Tasmania had four dedicated display booths at the Expo showcasing the organisations’ varied employment, training, leisure and respite choices for people with disability and learning difficulties. Gearing Up Coordinator Debbie Hindle said access to information is crucial to effective planning for the future and assisting people live fulfilled adult lives. “Gearing Up provided an easy way for people to access information that will assist with participation in the social and economic life of the community. The Expo was officially opened by Mr Bill Shorten MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services who was presented with a framed photograph taken by Anne Glover (ILT), and a selection of Tasmanian timber products manufactured by Oakdale Industries. The next Gearing Up Expo in Southern Tasmania is scheduled for 2011.
