Located in Glenorchy, Tasmania, Walkabout Industries is a cornerstone of OAK Tasmania’s businesses, delivering a unique range of services, from paper shredding & recycling, to potting soil production and solvent decanting and packaging.

With a dynamic team of 40 supported employees and 8 supervisors across three primary businesses, Walkabout Industries is integral to OAK Tasmania’s commitment of enriching the lives of Tasmanians with disabilities, while providing incredibly valuable products and services to the community. Paper Recycling & Document Destruction

With a commercial shredder that shreds approximately one tonne of paper per hour and a team that processes 1,300 tonnes of recycled paper each year, Walkabout Industries plays a vital role in reducing landfill and litter across Tasmania, while closing the loop on consumption in the Tasmanian professional community.

Our growing customer list includes Veolia, document storage facilities, government departments, offices, and general households, to which we offer a variety of premium services:

• Lockable 240 litre wheelie bins, available for hire throughout Southern Tasmania.
• Paper collection and delivery options to suit your business needs.
• A Certificate of Destruction to verify the security of each shredding process.

Potting Mixes

Walkabout Industries proudly mixes, packs and distributes over 120,000 bags of quality-tested potting soil each year – boosting the growth of fresh veggies and flowers across the island state!

With a client base including K&D Warehouse, John Clennett Mitre 10, Yates wholesalers, Nurseries and the general public, our potting soils are produced from Tasmanian-sourced ingredients wherever possible, and manufactured to Australian standard AS 3743. Ingredients are measured, mixed and packaged by our team on site, before sending products into stores, flower pots and gardens across the state.

Solvents

Decanting, storing and packaging solvents is a delicate process, requiring specific infrastructure and specialised teams – both of which Walkabout Industries is proud to provide in premium form. Respected in the industry and known well in households across Tasmania, the Walkabout brand is synonymous with quality, offering a range of useful products:

• Methylated Spirits
• Mineral Turpentine
• Kerosene
• Shellite
• White Spirit
• Linseed oil (boiled and raw)

With state-wide customers including K&D Warehouse, John Clennett Mitre 10, paint stores, glaziers and the general public, our solvents are decanted and stored on site before being packaged into a full range of sizes – from 500ml right up to 200 litres – to suit single paint brushes and industry leaders alike.

In line with our wide variety of products and services, Walkabout Industries offers a full range of work opportunities for our supported staff – from low level entry jobs right through to highly skilled and specialised positions.  We provide both in-house and accredited training delivered by OAK Tasmania’s RTO, and we pride ourselves on building a culture where everyone has a sense of ownership in what they do.
