OAK Training & Development

Empowering Tasmanians with practical tools for contributing to the work force… and beyond.

Along with OAK Tasmania’s commitment to serving the special needs of our people and the community as a whole, comes the need for recognised and genuinely meaningful on-the-job training.

Enter OAK Training and Development – a key aspect of OAK Tasmania that has evolved with changing times since our first nationally accredited training program back in 1988.

What makes us unique today? We are…

Nationally Recognised

Oak Training and Development Services is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that provides internal training across all of OAK Tasmania’s business divisions. That means that within every OAK Tasmania business, we have an in-depth, industry-recognised training program, providing nationally accredited, Certificate level 1-3 training and/or practical skill development to guide our supported staff into empowering roles within the organisation. Areas of specialised training currently include horticulture, light manufacturing, forest products, information technology and transport and distribution (wharehousing).

Genuinely Applicable

It’s not enough for us to tick the boxes in the eyes of the industry… Our deeper commitment is genuine application. Because we base our training programs on the real life requirements of the businesses we operate, our training is practical, hands-on and connected to the pulse of each industry. With an ‘empower through experience’ approach, our supported work force is given closely monitored, on-the-job training and vocational skills that meet industry standards and the real life needs of each area of focus.

Sensitively Individualised

Perhaps the most vital component of Oak Training and Development is that our programs are deeply sensitive to the special needs and different abilities of the people we train. With a commitment to supporting those who may have had a tough time learning through more traditional methods, we embrace the opportunity to adapt training packages and bridge individual needs with those of the employer.

In brief, we know the industries we are training for and we know the special needs of the people we are training.

This makes for an incredibly powerful and applicable model – one we feel proud to share with all those in the OAK Tasmania family who are ready to take the next step.

Our growing list of allied organisations include Tasmanian Polytechnic and Tasmanian Skills Institute (formerly TAFE Tasmania), Youth Futures, TOPQUAL, Tasmanian agricultural and horticultural sectors as well as various external Australian Disability Enterprises. Funded by Skills Tasmania, supported by various industry training sectors, and fueled by the dedicated efforts of senior experts in the field, OAK Training and Development deliver an empowered training platform for both supported staff and a broad range of other participants.

“With shifting economic conditions, changes in employer / employee expectations and our education system as a whole, there is a great need for consistent, individualized focus within the training sector.  At Oak Training and Development  we feel particularly capable of imparting up-to-date knowledge and industry practices because we already operate successful business enterprises in the sectors we provide training in. Our staff have a high level of technical expertise in their fields, coupled with a genuine level of connection to the needs of our supported staff.”
